By Kara Noble
I make the change from 2 to 1
And lord over the entire expanse of white
A woman crushed and stuck with shattered trust
Discarded on the bed where lovers fight
But since I had his pillow gone
I’m centered – free to venture left and right
Not fearful, fetal, clinging to the side
At peace in sleep and eager for the light
Accept the change from 2 to 1
The welcome rest that comes from this respite
My time to patch one pillow full of hope
Repair – then share that softness held so tight
I stretch my limbs to reach the stars…
So many new adventures to invite
So much to dream on! Now that I ignore
The roar – of that Mercedes in the night
These days, borne on peace-filled dawns
That I’d forgotten were my true birthright
My Noble sovereignty – returned intact
In fact, I thank that long-gone pillow fight
