Discretion could very well be a missing link to our success.  It is a value that has fallen by the wayside in our competition for glory, our society’s insatiable need for one-upmanship.  At some point in time, perhaps around the explosion of social media and reality television, speaking behind the backs of others, and breaching trust publicly, became popular.  I find it interesting that most people are acutely aware of the meaning of indiscretion, however discretion is seldom discussed or integrated.

Like many things that we want to get better, I am asking those listening to pony up.  Personally,  I’d like to see discretion make a come back.  Discretion is about principles like: honest communication, permission, transparency, protection, and respecting one another.  Discretion is a standard we choose to add to our behavior portfolio, if we want to become part of the solution.
